“Need a quick way to transfer files between two Macs? Start up one computer with the T key held down, then plug it into another mac with a firewire cable. The “target” computer’s disk appears on the second mac! Be sure to ‘gracefully’ unmount the target computer’s disk by dragging it to the trash before unplugging the firewire cable. Press the power button on the target computer to turn it off.”
If I had a second Mac, I would let you know if it really works or not, but it sounds great!

It works like a charm. In fact, when you buy a new Mac, it will ask you during the setup process if you have an older Mac that has data you would like to transfer to the new Mac. It has you attach your previous Mac with a Firewire cable and boot in target disk mode, then it transfers all of your files and applications. Wow. Leave it to Apple to think of that.

Yes! It does work. I just got a new Powerbook, and boy was I pleased when I first fired it up and it asked me if I had stuff to transfer. Of course, it required a Firewire cable, which I wouldn’t have had had I not recently purchased a Maxtor One Touch Firewire Hard Drive for backup. That saved me tons of time and frustration.
