Hey Joan, great to see you in the comments - I love your newsletter!

Asking people for help on Twitter certainly comes naturally to me - there isn't a week that goes by where I don't learn something new just from asking. It's like a natural-language search engine!

Good point about the political expression. That's a peeve of mine along with complaints that have no substance.

I've never understood why people like to get so political in public, but I can at least entertain the idea that (careful) expression of strong opinions in one's social media presence can be beneficial. This is professionally more acceptable within the trenches of social media, but it's probably not appropriate (yet) for some sectors where using social media is a new thing.

I say yet because I believe we're approaching a more transparent society because of social media. There will be a bit of a correction once this transparency hits its peak, so it remains to be seen where it will settle. I find this transparency good because it keeps me working with clients with whom I can relate - less friction.

I think the expression of strong opinions can have an enhancing effect in new media just as it has in old media. People need something to grab onto and discuss - this process is a part of the mechanics that spread a message.

Love your tip about asking people for help. Tweeple LOVE being asked for advice on everything from which printer to buy to how to get ink stains out of a carpet. I asked the ink stain question last year and my followers inundated me with fabulous tips!

My pet peeve on Twitter: Political sniping. If you're using Twitter for business, don't wear your politics on your shirtsleeve, or risk alienating half of your audience.
